Wollomia Train Carriage
Wollomia is a suburb close to the ocean, surrounded by bush and farmland on the south coast of NSW. I was approached to design accommodation on a site with 2 existing houses and sheds; adapting a decommissioned train carriage. The small budget meant that minimal internal changes to the carriage could be carried out. A roof was built over the carriage with high level openings to allow for skylights in the roof of the carriage, and for light to pass over. A large J type, tilt garage door is added at one end opening the carriage to views of the surrounding bush. An outdoor shower and deck wrap around the carriage, creating an undercover space to spill out onto.
